Validator or continuous monitoring

A validator answers the question 'is this message correct?'. Monitoring answers the question 'is the month complete and on time?'. Since Release 2027 dropped the reconciliation messages, that second question is no longer covered by the standard.

What a validator does

One message against one schema and a set of consistency checks. Indispensable during build and chain test, and as the first gate on receipt.

What monitoring does

Per fund and per month, watch which messages are expected (SPR: 1, 2, 3, 4; FPR model 2: 5, 13, 10, 6, 13, 14), whether they arrived at T-4, T+3 and T+4, whether feedback came within the period, and whether positions and flows reconcile between messages. Exactly the reconciliation the discontinued messages 8 and 9 were once meant to carry.

Our advice

Start with the validator; once the first funds are live, month-end monitoring is the control measure DNB and the auditor want to see.
